I need some opinions on this.

My car was repainted in the late 70's due to overspray from a painting project at work.

A body shop in Lompoc did this.

All of the VIN number discussions got me looking at the car again, and I DO NOT SEE A VEH. CERT. LABEL on the drivers door!

Before I find the guy who painted the car and go shoot him, tell me some plausible alternatives for why it isn't there?

Possibility #1. It may have fallen off with age. Was it there before you took the car to the body shop?

Possibilty #2. The driver's door could have been replaced sometime during the life of the car.

Possibility #3. If it was there before you took it to be painted, the body shop might have sanded it off so they could paint that area.

And, I'm sure there are lots more possibilities.

Thanks.

I just cannot remember when I last saw it.

Here's a doozie: Is it possible it could be put on another camaro to circumvent some law and sell some car back then? Would that be too paranoid a thought?

I doubt the door sticker was moved to another car unless it was for the purpose of a door swap.
I don't know of anyone that verifies a VIN based on the door label...the dash and firewall VIN would be the place to look to verify.

I'm sure one of the previously mentioned possibilities is the case.

I've never heard of any State or other registering authority using the sticker on the door as proof of authenticity. If they did, it would be illegal to reproduce them.

Many vehicles get the driver's door replaced after an accident, and there is no regulation anywhere that I know of that requires inspection or replacement of the sticker on the door.

As long as you have the metal VIN on the dash, you don't need to be concerned about the paper one missing from the door.
