Ive been told the Vin is stamped on the sub frame but on the two frames i cleaned the only thing i could find was a number on the rearward inside end of the passenger side frame rail . looks like a part number or sequence number but did not match anything in the vin

The complete VIN Is not stamped, they stamp a VIN derivative.

Looks like this 12N345678 for a Norwood car; 12L345678 for a LA car

There is no VIN derivative stamped on the subframe. The full VIN is on the dash (VIN plate); the motor and trans (if original to the car) have the derivative; and behind the blower box on the firewall (derivative).

The only things stapmped on the rear most driver side of the frame rail is a date code and manufacture stamping (mine has an "S"). It's been discussed a lot. Use the SEARCH feature to see old postings with tons of good information.
