View Full Version : Want to buy 73 Z28 but worried about tags
Z28Wanter 08-31-2009, 03:33:55 PM Does this trim tag look stock to you? It's attached with wood screws and is silver I wasn't sure if this is correct. Vin says it a real z.
Thanks in advance

twozs 08-31-2009, 03:51:39 PM at some point in the 73 production run the tt was attached with the screws that you show. my car is a 4th week in march and it has rivets. the tag you show is the second week in july so a very late production run. the vin should be in the high 80,000s to mid 90,000s like 1Q87T3N190000. the "T" in the vin is important in the identification also it signifies a RPO z28 engine. as far as the tag being bare metal ; it should be black as it was on the cowl when the cowl was painted at the factory. thats why the TTs with the rivets give you that warm fuzzy feeling as they are hard to reattach as the rivets were applied from the back of the cowl. maybe the owner took it off and stripped the paint off it ??? who knows but the tag itself looks good and BTW its a light yellow car with black interior and black stripes
Z28Wanter 08-31-2009, 04:17:33 PM Thanks...That makes me feel better the vin is a high number.1Q87T3N190301. The car is red with black stripes today...here is the ad.

Z20AINT 08-31-2009, 04:42:56 PM My 73 LT came with screws on the trim tag. I stripped it bare and like it that way better.
ZZTOP 08-31-2009, 07:15:53 PM Nice Looking Ride
unrestored72Z 08-31-2009, 07:26:27 PM dont see many small spoilers painted the 70 - 72 tall spoiler style, with the stripes not rounded at the bottom.
Z28Wanter 08-31-2009, 07:56:55 PM The paint looks way worse in person. I would eventually like to return it to its light yellow with black stripes. The originals are painted stripes or tape??
vfitom2aol.com 09-01-2009, 01:29:20 AM That tag looks ok. It was taken off and stripped of paint and reapplied. Hex screws are correct.
tom3 09-01-2009, 03:15:13 AM Seems like a lot of money to me, original drive train gone and poor paint. I'd sure look underneath it for rust or damage too, though in your area that might not be a common problem?

Mine...if I am recalling correct is the 3rd week in April and I know I have rivets. The website is blocked from where I am at. So unless someone wants to repost the pictures(loaded from nastyz28) here with the details I can't judge it.

Z28Wanter 09-01-2009, 12:13:50 PM It is alot of money I'm offering less. Any way I can tell if it's a real RS like there claiming???
IceBerg1163 09-01-2009, 01:50:16 PM Z28 will be on the cowl tag will put the z22 off so unless you can find the build sheet you really jsut have to go off the looks. For the most part if it looks like an RS smells like a RS it is a RS.
Use this to spoting a real RS (http://www.nastyz28.com/faq/rs-faq.html)
vfitom2aol.com 09-01-2009, 06:16:43 PM 73 RS's should have extra bracings at the nose.
twozs 09-01-2009, 09:57:39 PM yea a 73 RS is harder to fake it has extra stuff on the front end here is a BASIC picture http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh155/stinsonz/Picture001.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh155/stinsonz/Picture002.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh155/stinsonz/Picture003-1.jpg look fro these bars and supports on the car. it looks like he conveniently chopped the out of the engine bay photo. maybe you can offer him less when its discovered it not an rs (if its not)
vfitom2aol.com 09-02-2009, 01:23:44 AM The assembly manual shows a good diagram. Its been posted on this forum here before.
