View Full Version : whats the worse shape you have returned a craftsman tool
rickcact 08-29-2009, 04:02:01 PM I just did the brakes on my DD, anf found a pair of craftsman vise grips holding somthing I had fdone well over a year ago. They were rusted so bad they would not open anymore. I brough them back for an exchange yesturday. That got me thinking, somone out there must have done worse than that. Lets here the stories.

79camaro2001 08-29-2009, 04:34:29 PM I've had to cut and bend some wrenches and they took it back after I got done with that once in a lifetime job of replacing the fuel injector pump on the IDI 7.3L diesel motor.
sandrider123 08-29-2009, 05:02:17 PM Since I Worl on a farm we can be kinda hard on out tools I was working on a tractor and shattered a a 2 1/2" wrench litterally easy 100 pieces put it on a nut and hit the bolt with an impact and it just shattered. And ther other one is a pretty normal thing but strippping out the gears in 1/2" drive rachets we do quite frequently
buckeye79 08-29-2009, 05:52:01 PM You used to be able to use their screwdrivers as chisels and they would exchange them, but the sears in my neighborhood wants to fight you on any returns these days. They also want to give you the ratchet with the cheap plastic directional lever on it now to, but you don't have to accept it you can just tell them that you want a rebuild kit for your old ratchet.
FatnLow 08-29-2009, 06:19:41 PM I brought in a rusted rachet i found in a junk car for a new one. It was locked up.

I've had horrible experiences trying to exchange broken ratchets, etc. But a PLASTIC LEVER???!!! No way!! That's unbelievable.
I actually came in here to joke about the quality of the tools I've gotten BACK from them. I returned one ratchet cause it was slipping (typical reason).
As soon as I got home with the 'new' ratchet.. it was worse than the one I returned.

Call a snap-on truck to come by your house. That's about all you can do.

You can also go to a local Snap on Distribution center is one is located near you and they will take care of your replacement if you cannot find a convenient dealer.
Have you also seen that Snap On tools are also sold in Sears and Ace Hardware stores??? Mind you it's not the typical high end wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers but actual Snap On branded tools...
Batman 08-29-2009, 11:15:59 PM I brought in the rusty head of an old Craftsman axe in. No handle, just a rusty axe head. They gave me a new axe!

I had to replace a steel brake line, and I needed it to hold the rubber line(going to the wheel) in the bracket. I must have fogot to take them off. I had to pry it loose.
I have to aggree with the ratchets. They did the same thing to me. Plastic lever, what a joke.
MEAN79 08-31-2009, 12:08:41 PM I had a set of screw drivers in the trunk of my old 75 nova SS. And the garage it was in caught fire. Garage and car burnt to the ground. All of the plastic handles melted and cracked. Took them In and they gave me a new set. Don't even know if that was covered. But they gave it to me.
Man I miss that car
:(
70 splitbumper 09-01-2009, 01:31:11 AM I took in a tape measure I ran over with a forklift. The guy just laughed and got me a new one. I really don't think it was covered. Maybe they have an internal competition going to see who can produce the worst returns. I hope that guy got a prize.

Probably all the guys who work the tool section have a "wall of fame".
Tool dude: "Can you believe some jackass actually brought this in for warranty???!!!!"
