HI, I`ve been searching for 2 weeks trying to decode this stamping on the motor in my 78 camaro. It`s v1092400 Any help would be great! Also a quick tip: Never try to scrap clean the stamping behind the alt with a screwdriver while the alt is still mounted and the battery is hooked up.....Unless you enjoy buying a new altenator! Sad part is i new better...oh well

Check your fusable links and underpants too.
That engine code is a GM replacement motor... 2400 is the last 4 digits of the GM part #. I suspect this is your run of the mill targetmaster 350 crate engine.

Would this motor have been a waranty replacment or an over the counter purchase, just curious because both motor and car are 78`s

Targetmaster engines were mostly over the counter replacement engines. For many years you could get one at your GM parts counter for $995 and drop it into any 1955 or later Chevy.
