hey guys, when i bought my 73 it came with a 12 bolt rear end. The guy I bought it off of said the rear came out of a 69 camaro. I didnt know u could use a 69 rear in a secend gen. Is that true? My next question is the code on the rear end is C B 3 0513G1 (well im pretty sure thats it, its kinda hard to read) is this a 70 camaro 12 bolt, a firebird 12 bolt, or something else? Thanks

A '69 F body 12 bolt would not be a direct bolt up to a 2nd gen...the spring perches are in the wrong spot and the '69 axle would be ~1" too short for a 2nd gen application. Having said that people have done sillier things...perches can be relocated and rims with different offset can accommodate the length difference.

But I doubt it is a '69 axle based upon the the code you supplied. All '69 Camaro axle codes are two alpha characters followed by four numerics and then single alpha character indicating the plant. Starting in '70 the stamping changes to a three character prefix (and they all start with "C").

So I would guess that it codes out like this:

" C B 3" where the "3" is actually another alpha character...my odds on favorite here would be "CRB" (3.31:1, Open) because it could easily look like " C B 3" if damaged or stamped poorly. Check here for other possible codes: http://www.nastyz28.com/2gcog/rearaxle.html#decode

"0513" = the build date...May 13th

"G"= Detroit Gear and Axle
