What about a cowl that has 2 dashes for the paint code? Was it a special order color? Could someone get a color other than factory options if they wanted? Just asking...Bill

Yes, the -- for paint code means the car was ordered with a non-standard paint offering. Unless you can find some of the original paint still on the car or a build sheet to tell you what color it originally was, you probably will never know.

You can paint it how you want it and no one can dispute it. Sweet.

it may have been black. black wasn't offered in 73 ( i guess the body work wasn't quite up to par). but Ive seen and heard of a number of black 73s with the -- paint code. from what i was led to believe gm would wait until they got 20 or 30 orders and took the bodys off the line for special straightening.
