I am baffled about the correct location for the trunk light fixture. My car is a '71 Z-28, did not have trunk light originally, I purchased repro one, but can't figure out where on the trunk lid it goes. None of the holes are large enough to put the rear of the light through. Any ideas, or do I have the wrong light? Thanks......

On my '79, the trunk light is located just to the left of the trunl latch. The holes are square on mine. I don't know if the early lids are the same. There should also be a drilled hole where the screw goes. This should help you locate the right place.

where would you get the power from.... would you have to splice into one of the light harness?

I have one on my 71 and there is a place where the light harness pulgs in.It's on the left side by the wheel well.Should be a wire harness that goes to your tailights. You will see what I mean when you find it.You have to feed the wires for the light through the trunk between the inter and outer panels.pull the wire out and plug it into the harness. No cutting or splicing needed.

I THINK that you are looking for the lighter colored brown wire. Sometimes my memory is not perfect though! Unplug the harness and use a test light it will be easier that way.

What controls the light? A mercury switch?

THANKS FOR THE HELP TO ALL WHO RESPONDED. I HAVE DONE THE INSTALL OF MY LIGHT NOW. TO ANSWER SOME OF THE NEWER POSTS, THE LIGHT DOES HAVE A MERCURY SWITCH WHICH SHOULD SHUT OFF AS THE TRUNK LID IS ABOUT PARALLEL TO THE GROUND. THE EXTENSION HARNESS (AT LEAST ON THE REPRO ONE I BOUGHT) PLUGS INTO THE DOME LIGHT CONNECTOR WHICH IS PART OF THE HARNESS ASSEMBLY IN THE TRUNK. THE DOME LIGHT HARNESS IS A 2 WIRE HARNESS, AND YOU WILL SEE A SMALL EXTENSION BUILT INTO THE FRONT PART OF THE CONNECTOR, THE TRUNK LIGHT EXTENSION WILL SLIDE ONTO THAT PART. MY CAR IS A '71, BUT I WOULD THINK THAT ALL EARLY 2ND GENS SHOULD BE SIMILAR. HOPE THIS HELPS. JUST TO ADD, YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TO CUT & SPLICE AT ALL.
