im about to start on sanding my nose and rear bumper but am afraid of damaging the urathane or whatever its made of..is there a method or something special i should know about before i dive in?..thanks again for the advice

I would strip both of them down with a paint stripper that is made for urethane bumpers. If you don't you take the chance of your original paint cracking or peeling some time down the road.
It will take time to do but I think it is worth it in the end.

Sand the metal parts, but don't sand any of the fiberglass or plastic. I've used chemical strippers specifically made for plastics and fiberglass and it works right.
Your paint supply store will have something they recommend for the job.
