On my 80 camaro i have like 3" to 4" of space between the fender and top of the tire. I notice that most 2nd gens sit higher in front. I have 14" rims with 235 60's. My rear wheels have about 2" of wheel gap. My 79 always looked slammed in front. It has no wheel gap in front and has 215 65 15's. I just wonder why my 80 sits so high. Its has a 350 in it with no a/c and still has exhaust manifolds but no smog pumps. It came from gm with a v6 with a/c. Would the lack of a/c and possibly smog pumps make my front sit that high?

3-4" Wow! I couldn't think that AC and smog pump would cause that. Are they the stock springs? Have you dont any suspension mods?

If you swapped out the V6 and put a small block V8 in place of it, it will sit a lot higher. Looks like you need to switch the springs out for new ones.
Besides, this will give you a good chance to press in new bushings and balljoints, and repaint the control arms and steering knuckle! http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Maybe this is a dumb question, but how can swapping a v6 for a v8 cause the car to sit higher? I personally thought that v8's were much heavier than the v6 which would cause the car to sit lower. Maybe I am missing something here.

That would be true if it was an I-6 in there. They share the same I-6 /BBC springs in the front.

so the 229 v6 weighed more than my 350? or did the 250 i6 weigh more and used bbc springs? Does anyone make lowering springs for our cars? Like Eibach or H&R???

Doh...sorry. I think I read the post wrong. I thought you said you threw in a V6. My appologies.
It could be that your rear springs are sagging. I remember when I put in my new springs, the front was about 2 inches higher than the back. Might want to take a look at your rear springs.

the most likely cause of the sagging rear end is spings, and everyything new/stock u-p front in my car that wears some radial ta 235/40/14's i have about 2-3/4 inches of clearance. and thats with the 100lbs of smog and ac equiptment in it.

Did you torque down your control arms without all the weight of the car on them?
