View Full Version : 17" wheel opinions
Strategery 10-19-2003, 08:22:00 PM Looking for opinions on some 17" wheels:
- Vintage Wheel Works V40
http://www.vintagewheelworks.com/v40.html
- Boyd Coddington Evolution
http://www.billetwheel.com/Wheels/Signature/evolution.html
17x8 front, 17x9.5 rear. Note that the VWW 17x8 wheels have 4.5 bs. Will that be ok on a '71? This board seems to recommend 5 bs on 17x8 fronts.

79rallysport 10-19-2003, 10:21:00 PM I can't help you with the size, but if it were me, I'd deffinitely go with the VWW's. Those are some sweet looking wheels with a classic style.
roadrace2 10-20-2003, 07:47:00 AM I like the second ones. (BCE)
Also, I run 17X8's all around with 4.5" bs.
No problems.
I believe the 5" bs are for the 17X9.5 rears.
Lowend 10-20-2003, 10:23:00 AM You really want a 5.5" backspace on the 17x9.5" rears, you can get away with 5".
In general I don't reccomend doing business with Coddington, there are a long line of people out there he/his company has screwed (myself included).
You might consider Billet Specialities, I think this wheel is awesome

roadrace2 10-20-2003, 11:11:00 AM Woah, that rim Lowend posted is kick ass!
Strategery 10-21-2003, 12:44:00 PM Anyone else have an opinion on the VWW 40s or the BC Evolutions?
Jeremy Benson 10-21-2003, 01:12:00 PM I really like those VWW's. I bought a set of TT2's with the gray painted centers for the vintage look. Plus almost all the TT's I've seen are polished. You get the cool looking rim that is a little different than everybody elses. My rims are 17x8(4"bs)fronts, and 17x9.5(5.5"bs)rear.
hotrod 10-21-2003, 03:35:00 PM Lowend those are good looking wheels. Also there are the old Cragar S/S mags in 17X9 and 17X8.

SHANE 73Z 10-21-2003, 03:49:00 PM I just bought a set of VWW vintage 48's. I will say that the quality is great as is the customer service. Ill post a pick later. I really like the look of a more vintage wheel. That is a matter of opinion though.
Take care,
Shane

I thought all TT2's were polished. TT-D's have painted centers but don't seem to come in 17" sizes. Huh?
77thor 10-21-2003, 03:58:00 PM I also like the VWW's better. I have always liked the look of TTD's and those are similar design.
SHANE 73Z 10-21-2003, 04:18:00 PM Strategery,

71camaro383 10-21-2003, 05:44:00 PM the billet specialties is one sweet rim.Couldnt go wrong with it.
fyrbyrd80 10-24-2003, 12:28:00 AM The V40's are kick ass. Not to mention that I would never bolt another part on that had Coddington's mark on it.
