I was woundering if anybody has done this and would like to see some pics. I would like to make my firewall smooth but was woundering about the windshield wiper motor how would I mount it? And how hard would this be to do?

I smoothed the firewall on my 71 F-Bird but not enough to remove the wiper motor.

I covered mine with brushed aluminum, you can see one side in this picture

It kinda goes around the wiper motor then stops at the steering shaft. In the begining I was going to make a box that went around the brake booster as well that would cover the rest but then I decided to wait until I swapped the power brakes for manual brakes. That was a year ago. http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/smile.gif
This is how it looks with the rest in.

I got it all from a local steel supply yard. The only hard part with the fenders was the beading for the bowties which a friend did for me.The firewall was a fair bit thicker so you need a way to cut it besides tinsnips. My friend did it as well and used a plasma cutter.

When I did mine, I only did the pass. side. I figured that I would cover the heater, and in the future, Ill go with a full aftermarket A/C setup, so Ill only drill the holes for the hoses.
The metal that I welded in was similar in size to Craggars aluminum cover. I wouldnt recommend smoothing the whole thing, unless your ready for a lot of work.

My body guy and I smoothed my firewall and mounted a 4th gen wiper motor with modified crank arm behind the firewall. It isn't that hard to do,just measure twice and cut a little bit at a time, test fit, cut, test fit,cut,etc...
This will also allow you to move your engine back for better weight distribution,if you are interested in handling.
I sent you some pics and can try to get more if you like.Let me know.

I would love to see that! Also, the description of your Camaro sounds amazing! Got a website?

I would love to get that info too! Were you able to retain the intermittent wipers? What switch did you use? How did you wire it??? This is something that I need to do NOW! I started a conversion to an 80 motor, but I gave up on the wiring...
Post it all here, and you'll make a lot of us happy.
thanks
