I'm thinking 6 1/4 for the early years, say through 73? And about 5 3/4 inch for the later years. Have to really hack up the dash to use the later stereos. My car had an aftermarket stereo in it and the dash was already cut up so I did put a mid 80s AM/FM radio without too much trouble. Looks almost stock. http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/5131/70zshifter1ji8.jpg Renton 12-16-2008, 01:46:40 AM There is so much space in there to mount a deck it should not be very hard using a universal type mounting bracket. Funny that people used to throw out the 8 Track player right away but now vintage stuff like that is coming back. 8 Track is way better than cassette in my opinion, better audio and the thing doesn't jam up. Brings back memories. Damn we are old. At least I am. Gary S 08-13-2010, 08:55:50 PM Wow, 8-track. Brings back memories. Damn we are old. At least I am. You aren't old unless you remember when cars could have turntables to play your 45rpm records. COPO 08-14-2010, 09:00:22 AM I still have my 45's, 33 LP's and 8 track and cassettes and aftermarket players. hhott71 08-14-2010, 12:47:33 PM New stereos don't even have CD players, they have AM/FM and MP3, USB etc inputs. They are even inexpensive,,, Can be bought for less than $100 No reason why someone who is savy wouldn't create a 2-shaft stereo with inputs instead of a clunky tape player. |
