Hi !

Yes, maybe i'm saying stupid things.... That's the situation:

I've my '71 sat on my Garage, i'm about to finish this restoration project.

I want to test the transmission on this, but NOT on the road. I want to test it on the garage. Say, i'm planning to put 1st gear, setp on the gas pedal a bit, and let it go, BUT having the rear of the car jacked up, and with two jack stands, one on each side.

Is it possible ?? I know it could be dangerous.... and a terrible headache (if not killing myself) if the car drops on the floor......

That could sound stupid and dangerous, but i need to do it, 'cause i really don't want to move the car out of the garage by now... I want to check everything before that...

somebody tried it that way without major problems ????

Thanks!

You can do it no problem but I'd put it up on four stands, it's more stable that way.

Its not conclusive but it will give you an idea if its going to run or not.

Nothing crazy about that- hard core racers sometimes heat up the rear diff oil prior to a run by doing exactly what you describe. Just remember, you'll be in top gear and spinning the tires at 100MPH very quickly with even modest throttle application.
