Who do you recommend as a source (aside from my local stealership) for a new GM 454 crate engine?

Also, how do you rate the reliability of the aluminum heads for a daily, and sometimes long-distance, driver?

I'm probably old-fashioned, but I always thought of aluminum heads as exotic, and not necessarily suited for street applications. Am I just old? ;)

Thanks.

You can order from many places, but pickup is always better and you save some $$$$$.They offer free shipping to most places It's worth the call they have a warehouse full of engines ready to go, they are in Ohio

Pretty much all of the crate motor outlets are selling at cost or near cost, so it really doesn't;t matter where you by it from - it's gonna cost about the same. I would say to buy local, or from one of our sponsors like Jeg's (http://www.jegs.com/)

FYI the GM 454 crate engine is gonna run you about $6K + shipping. For another $300 you can get a 502 crate engine (PN 12568778) which has the same warranty ect... You will need to buy another oil pan (GM PN 12495360) but other than that it's a drop in replacement.
The 502 is disgustingly torquey, and well worth the extra few $

You are just old... more than half of the current production gas engine run Aluminum heads. They are perfectly viable for street engines and just as dependable as Iron. Corvette has not had an iron head since mid-1986

Where are you in MD? Most people around here, eastern panhandle of WV, go to Apple Chevrolet in York, PA to pick up GM crate engines. They always have great prices and almost all types are always in stock.

http://gilbertautoparts.com/start.cfm?CFID=2588506&CFTOKEN=77348630....... Gilbert Chevrolet -1.800.545.0048 talk to Scott. They can dyno your engine before shipping, and will configure any crate engine, anyway you want it......kind of "crate engine ala carte" They have many different packages for each engine, or you begin with the basic engine and just start adding on...........the only limit is your wallet. ;)
