First Project and first time posting here, picked her up a few months back-in need of some good lovin. $950 dropped off. Carfaxed it- third owner, spent most of its life in texas. 1981, sport coupe/base. Ended up turning into a son/father project. So spare the harsh criticisms :D.
Heres what we got done so far and how she sits.

As for the future of the car, going to sit in primer during winter. Want it to be moveable in the spring. Looking for a 350 or possibly something else to stick in it at the moment. I have all winter to save up for a crate engine. Plan to take it to some shows by next summer. More importantly, to breathe on the road.

Welcome again Colten.

Nice start on the body, you going to freshen up the engine that came out of it? Is it even original that you can tell?

edit: Nevermind:crazy:

very nice start there. i now have had the blessing of having two father son projects. one with my dad, and now one with the girlfriends boy.

This IS the original 305 beat in it. I just feel like it deserves a little more. Motor did hand crank over, missing misc. stuff. Just dont want to mess with it,dont know bad vibes? haha

If that's the rule, then Cindy should get a gold star! LOL

Seriously though, cool project. Remember, label everything as you take it off. Also, search on this site. There is a ton of info here.

Regular acrylic enamel, doesnt make sense to spray an expensive product...in an engine bay imo.

Update:
Ready to drop a motor on to atleast get this baby rollin for now, while I save up for a crate engine over winter. I am torn between my choices i have at the moment.
1. goodwrench 350 <---probably internally balanced (im guessing 86/87+)...$250,great shape less than 100,000 and its like 15 miles away from home
2. 400 SBC out of a 77? chevy pick-up <--looks to be in "alright shape",same spot from home $350-400
3. 327 SBC out of a 67-68ish c-10 15x,xxx <---$400 plus 2 hour trip to pick it up.

Might be a little vague, but its what i got to work with at the moment. What do you guys think? I mean if you had them choices?

If the 327 is a 67 or older block (62-67) that would be my choice. But if not then id go with the goodwrech 350. the 400 would be nice, but because of how short the stock connecting rods are they put alot of strain on the cylinder walls.

...will get the casting number off the 327 tomorrow after work

the 68-69 327s are basicaly a 350 with a shorter stroke, well any 327 is, but the small journal 327s are pretty unique, all had forged cranks and good rods. The only problem with those are they had no accesory boltholes on the heads, but if its from a truck it probabaly has bigger chamber heads anyway.

Welcome also to the board,

Nice paint job in that engine bay, If that 327 has no bracket holes, it could be a camel hump heads. 2.02intake not sure about the exshaust though,I believe there 68cc chambers. Good look with project and keep the progress pic coming.

Very nice project.

Have you ever rebuilt a small block Chevy? If not, I suggest you get a Targetmaster engine. GM offers tons of different assembled motors from mild to wild. I was at Trackside products today (who runs Penn Can Speedway, in Susquehana, PA). He is contemplating a rule that the Purestock racers have to use one of GM's crate engines for that class) He said that that particular engine series (which there are three different ones of) would all be able to run on the the street (low test gas, four barrel, with Vortec heads). The lowest performance one had 350 hp and cost $3500 (plus it would require a four barrel carb). The next two weren't much more and also required the extra expense of a carb.

Ran into a snag, with the box/shroud on my firewall. Im not going to run A/C and I dont want this thing to run open like that. Is there a replacement? Do i have to fab something up to cover it? Or am I giving it to much thought. Heres a pic..to show what im talking about.
