what is the piece called on the 79 that is right on front of the front tire that holds the blinker/running light...is that a valance or am i completely wrong...thanks Joel

Your car doesn't have a valance.

'70 - '73 cars had them, both upper and lower, in two flavors Rally Sport and Plain (full bumper). Simply put they are the "front face" of the car. They surround the grille and house the headlights, and turn signal lights. Your car has a large urethane piece that hides the structural elements that make up the front of the car.

Later 2gens are much more heavily "armored" up front, hence the need for a nice looking cover to conceal it all.

Mad mike hit it for the 78 through 81's. The 74 - 77 Camaros had the fender extensions and lower valance incorporated into one piece made of fiberglass.
