enjoideviantly 09-08-2008, 01:15:44 AM starting my progress! due time.
Found her in roseville, MI, just outside of north detroit. Found her on the cars for sale on here at nasty in idea of a parts car, and it ended up my CAR car september of 07, when I was in San Francisco for 10 days.
Contacted, worked the price down. came with these pics:

Also had a picture of the 80z28 hood with working cowl. Talked, called, worked out.
On October 20th, about a month and odd days after the online find, I went with a 18 foot, 06 silverado, and 2 friends to FETCH. Bought it as a roller[with engine in; was told engine had a hole in oil pan, didn't know how it got there though.] Also with the car I got a 400 block, stock, from a tow truck pretty much free. $2500 for the pair. Title in hand.

Lady, meet buck [ex 78z.. rustbucket case]
It was really quite solid and loaded.. Z28 deluxe interior with no exterior striping. Bought by a woman who had it for quite awhile who lived in Brighton, MI not too far from roseville. I notch on the passenger t-top is busted, and th e other is stretched, otherwise it came with extra parts and all, just no running and hadn't in awhile. Full camel interior, and I plan to have it black within some time[note within time lol] Sold off door panels, and whoever wants camel stuff can let me know, I'm sure I'll have them sitting around after awhile. Black console on the way already.

enjoideviantly 09-08-2008, 01:18:54 AM pull weekend! my first head on pull 9/13/08
heads up-- with the ground being so wet from the rain all week, last night, and this morning, keep in mind the hoist would sink. so we went to menards[greg and i] and thought up to either a) use boards and spend $$ to get good wide boards or b) push the car away from the hoist.
SO we pushed the car! as we hoisted, unhooked, pushed it about a foot, then we hoisted it once all clear until it could clear the nose of the car and scooted it back again a good 3 feet so we could lower the engine back down and lay it nice on a board on the ground. we then moved it back forward to a chocked block, which was set to cover the whole tranny until right before it touched the engine

enjoideviantly 09-08-2008, 01:47:15 AM yehh sleeep. post more tomorrow haha
steveo_80z28_nj 09-08-2008, 01:11:12 PM and whoever wants camel stuff can let me know, I'm sure I'll have them sitting around after awhile.
I'm looking for some t-top interior parts in camel...
Attached some pics of the parts.
I need the Y part for driver's side...the other part for rear passenger (pic attached)...it won't let me post the Y part pic.
Do you happen to have the ac lap vents for both driver and passenger side?
shipping to 08721.
Let me know.
SteveO
enjoideviantly 09-08-2008, 04:01:55 PM email me those pics, the bigger the better. is the attached pics A-pillars?? I don't remember one having a hole.. are they handle holes? So those are the most outer peices of t-top trim, right?
the lower passenger A/C vent is sold, and ryan[kansas twister] asked for the driver one, but I won't rid of that until I have a black replacement so it can direct the heat inside the car lolol. As it sits I believe I will only have 2 vents, the far right in dash below glove right? and left bottom. where the a/c would be, except it will be no ac anymore in black

That's all I have...it was off Craigs List.
I need the Y off the A-pillar Driver's side...that's correct.
The other is opposite the A-Pillar on the Passenger side. I don't know what they're called...sorry.

enjoideviantly 09-08-2008, 05:11:14 PM ok.

KansasTwister 09-08-2008, 08:24:54 PM lol i wanted the ac controls, not the driver side vent. lol.

KJZ28 09-08-2008, 10:42:23 PM I want to see progress!!!
enjoideviantly 09-14-2008, 02:59:54 AM updated!!
deputyrob 09-14-2008, 01:01:21 PM glad you got the whole shabang out with no hastles and glad i could help. told ya it was easy. and looks to me like you have a TH350 trany. there should a tag on it on the right side i believe, should say what kind it is.
gordonquixote 09-14-2008, 01:05:03 PM Good stuff. Lots of progress goin' on there.
iregret 09-14-2008, 01:16:05 PM Good job!
... Now where are the stages we talked about? What's the gameplan?
enjoideviantly 09-14-2008, 09:47:04 PM well my ex and guy friend whose a fellow car geek wants my tranny, so it looks like he gets it if he helps unhook it and drops my engine off with me at the garage unit i rent part of with my guy friend :)
SO! next would be the tranny. and part buying and such over winter. wheels and tranny are the big objects to buy over the next months. i want to do the typical buy it, store it, then get a hand and GOTO and get it done once the snow melts!
it will take me some to get a big outline done :)lol
John Wright 09-15-2008, 09:03:37 AM What are your plans for replacing the tranny that you are getting rid of? I think you were talking with Jake about a 400? Is that still your plan?
enjoideviantly 09-21-2008, 10:53:32 PM yes i want a th400 with t brake in a manual reverse valve body with a 750 hp goal and guarentee :)
more progress!

enjoideviantly 09-21-2008, 11:42:21 PM p.s. im selling that mount.. i am gonna get a new one without extra holes and crap for my th400---
if anyone needs a cat friendly mount $10 cleaned and painted!!
79camaro2001 09-21-2008, 11:42:34 PM Yea, that's a th350 transmission.
If you can get it, get mean green at the Dollar store and it works really good. let it soak for awhile and you can get some clean parts!
example,
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/619068/fullsize/100_3082.jpg
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/619071/fullsize/100_3085.jpg
After a over night soaking,
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/619073/fullsize/100_3087.jpg
I knocked the big stuff off, but the rest came off after I let it soaked and the shook it under the cleaner. No scrubbing after soaking.
79camaro2001 09-21-2008, 11:46:12 PM This is the stuff, but i usually get the gallon bottle,
http://www.crbrandsinc.com/_images/g_meangreen_large_sprayer.jpg
Gallon I think goes for $5.
enjoideviantly 09-22-2008, 12:17:17 AM nice!!! i have time :) sounds like a good match! the bottle likes that of greased lightning were on sale at my hardware store for $2.50 so i got two, and used 1 1/2 today.
doing that next time!
enjoideviantly 09-30-2008, 01:18:29 AM It lives! Thanks to Rick for the good deal! i need to repair the bottoms of the ends, and im going to reinforce the roof to snowproof it :) any tips of how to use the twine/stuff? lol

and for good measure! :D
Flexing it seems ???
Or just looking and imagining the headaches still to come ??? :D
Project79Z 09-30-2008, 07:19:06 PM just think of how great its going to be when finished!!!!!
enjoideviantly 09-30-2008, 07:25:43 PM yeah :) wayners not flexing.. but if i add 6 more diagonal pieces tac welded in, then the snow will fall right off. right now im afraid it might "pool" inbetween too much, and I'm using my big tarp for flooring this winter. oof!
and lolololol at bobbab! im in ;) I really could use a helper sometimes. andrea is great as a hand, but she knows lots less than me still, although she wants to go into mechanics/body and is probably going to be present for most of my major things done to the lady as witness :)
BTTB71SS 09-30-2008, 08:20:32 PM Lara your making great progress on the car and I see the carport will do you good....
I just ran twine between the roof supports so it would not sag with snow on it....
Keep at it your doing good...
enjoideviantly 10-01-2008, 12:04:36 AM oh! that makes sense! what's with the angles grommets that face up and down on the roof pieces? are they meant to be used the strengthen the roof like that? I was gonna weld metal in. gotta price it still
Keizer 10-01-2008, 10:32:53 AM Camaro is looking good! Lots of work huh??
As far as your shed, I see those blowing down the road, off cliffs, and stuck in trees during the winter here. :whine: :o Stake that thing down good. One way to brace up the roof would be to buy some 3/4" steel electrical conduit. It comes in 10' lengths. You could use twine to tie them in place to help support that snow load.
Good luck!
Project79Z 10-01-2008, 12:47:00 PM Another thing u could do is go to ur local lumber store and get some pieces of 4x4 treated lumber to lay on the ground and screw the car port into it!!! That way no wind will carry it away.
KansasTwister 10-01-2008, 01:46:50 PM Another thing u could do is go to ur local lumber store and get some pieces of 4x4 treated lumber to lay on the ground and screw the car port into it!!! That way no wind will carry it away.
grab some 6x6 and some concrete bricks, that way no wind gonna take your temp garage away!
enjoideviantly 02-20-2009, 04:24:16 PM i sold the carport poles to a guy who is gonna use it to make a runinshed for their morgan rescue :) gave it for $40 with a tarp i think, felt it was a good cause, and i would need to put money into it. thanks anyways rick right? lolol
update! Been workin on the engine a bit.. Todd and I cleaned the cylinders(honing tool and by hand), he buffed the surfaces with this magic buffer guy (in the pic where the block is super shiny), then i put the heads on (I can barely lift these suckers, gotta build them muscles), and i torqued them on to spec by myself. then we put in the pushrods, rockers, but stopped after that because it was like 3am and we had to work tuesday :)
here ya go

not sure if I mentioned that with a little aid I pulled the cam and it was the new one already (we had no idea if it was pre-swapped and wasnt told to my friend who sold it to me, or if they mixed up cams when they machine) but it was right. I lubed the cam and lifters at that point.
