View Full Version : bumblebee to be
Haley 09-02-2008, 01:53:44 PM Managed to get the dash and gauges out this weekend, and the door panels off (thanks for the window crank 'rag' tip...worked great!
Looking pretty empty inside now.
Also noticed that my engine has guk all over it. I'll be having to pull that out too. Gotta get me an engine hoist!

Nice, that looks a lot like my interior now ;) Looks like the metal is in good shape though.
Although there are reasons to own an engine hoist, I plan on renting one for a day for the actual removal and then keeping the engine on an engine stand (which I will buy). Just an idea as you move forward :) Now if I can find a used hoist for cheap, then that might change!
Haley 09-02-2008, 04:22:16 PM Yeah, I just checked into the rental of a hoist. $29.00 for a day, so I'll probably be doing that, and just buy a stand.
I noticed most people paint their engines orange (chevy orange I guess) but I'm considering something different. Not sure yet what I'm going to do. Lots of surface rust to remove first.
I pulled the exhaust off of the car yesterday too. It was just hanging on a cable from the extension pipe back. So I got that pipe off. Haven't been able to get a look at the headers yet but I'm sure I'll need a whole new system. yay.
I'm looking to get some 64-65 chevelle front seats for it if anyone knows of anything let me know. I've been watching ebay.
I'm seriously considering dying the vinyl interior (most of it) cause it seems hard to find. The top part of the dash anyway.

Another big bumper car comes back to life.

Depending on your budget, most interior pieces are easy to find in catalogs. You can find decent pieces on ebay or even through the site vendors and re-dye them. I'd stick with the original dash if possible since aftermarket dashes fit poorly. The only trim pieces that are not made aftermarket are the side and front/back headliner trim pieces (side pieces more critical). The sail panels, rear 1/4s, console, etc, etc are readily available.
P.S. you can throw your budget out the window ;)

^5 on that
buckshot815 09-03-2008, 12:41:23 AM Concur on the repro dash-you can force them to fit, but it sucks. When I was looking for mine a few months ago the dashes were on "national back order for re-tooling"; I guess the plant in NV that makes them was retooling. Maybe they'll come out better this time. I eventually bought a repro from somebody's warehouse but kind of regret it.
There's a few places that recover dashes. It's more expensive, but it'd probably come out better.
Dyeing is solid-I used some adhesion promoter and SEM dyes and it looks and wears great. I didn't dye any vinyl though, just the plastic and the dash. Stay away from the generic "plastic paint".
Nothing wrong with painting the engine a different color. ;)

76_TypeLT 09-06-2008, 10:47:01 AM When you upload your pics to Photobucket, you'll see 4 options below each image. The last option is "IMG Code", which is the one you want to display pics on the forum. :) You can always manually wrap your image URL with and tags
KJZ28 09-06-2008, 05:11:08 PM Click your 1st link you posted, now in the lower right hand side of the page there is a list of different tags URL, [IMG] etc. not just lick the img one and paste it on a thread. Thats it!!
