I just got a used lower grill for my 78. It came out of a 79. It's in good shape, and I'm going to keep it, but it's different than the one that came out of mine. Does anyone know, did they change the lower grill from 78 to 79. I've never heard of this in all the discussions of differences from year to year. My old one let air pass through the grill, the old one is solid and doesn't let air pass through.

The '78 & '79 lower grilles were identical and both were for show only. Neither one allowed any cooling to occur, as they're mounted to the solid frunt bumper behid the urethane nose. The only differences were that some models got a silver grille while others were black.

did the grill come off another Z-28? there were differances between the standard and the Z's.

Both grills came off of Z-28's. Mine is a 78 and the new one came off of a 79. One thing that might have happened, on my car, the previous owner thought it would be a great idea to put two fog lamps inside the lower grill. Either he cut the back out or got a different grill off a different car. That could be one possibilty.
