Just got done adding a NOS "old skool" shaft stereo; OEM speaker grills (reconditioned) and set of new pioneer 6x9s w/ some acoustic fabric added between grills and speakers. Here are some pics:

That looks really good. I was outbid on a pair of covers and baffles today. I just wanted the baffles and was going to resell the grilles. I hope you got to take the car out and stretch its legs.

Speakers look great.
Do you have a full-size spare in the trunk?

How's it sound?

Any old-school (2-shaft) faceplate for the head unit should fit with minimal trimming. Or... Did you deliberately leave it off?

Thanks guys !!

I don't have the baffles, actually the u-pull-it had a set of cardboard ones with the insulation stuff partially in tact but it has seen better days....looks like a critter started to make a nest out of one so I passed on it. Baffles probably will help with bass.

I hope you got to take the car out and stretch its legs.

Actually was able to today !!!

How's it sound?

Right now it sounds decent, defineately not h-fi but will do. I wish I had the front speaker but I am not going through all that work for a single speaker !! I think the build in EQ really helps. Cruisin with windows down and sound of engine and flowmaster exhaust I crank the stereo at full volume and good enough for me.

Do you have a full-size spare in the trunk?

Currently no spare tire or jack ! :o However I think the speakers are low profile enough to fit a full size. This week I am going to try and find a donut spare and jack from a caprice at the boneyard.

Actually came with the faceplate...I did leave it off....think it would look better with it on ???

Yeah, you should put it back on. I think the auction ended already. I'll check. I put $30 on it and was outbid by $1 last time I checked. I'm going to later down the road buy the replacement lower dash and get a radio like you have and install it with a RF modulator and get a XM radio. In all honesty I probably wont listen to the radio that much driving. I like the sound of the V8. I did decide to go with headers.

Damon.....thanks for the link. Ouch !!!

There is a set on ebay for $10 + 10 S/H....seems high to me.

I too won't be listening to the stereo that much, plus I will be driving it probably way less than you so I did not want to put much $ into the stereo.

Let me go off an put the face plate on and snap a pic....

Bitchin! Old-school Radio Shack unit?

It fills out the space much better with the faceplate and hides the shaft hardware.
Much better looking with the face plate, IMO.

Several members have gutted the factory front speaker and installed a pair of 3.5" or 4" speakers in the frame.
Use the search function to find a few examples.

Actually a pyramid. Guy on ebay is selling 25 units NOS in the box still sealed, like 20 yrs + old. Think he has like 16 left.

Actually I read some nice how to articles on this site. Right now I don't have an original front speaker, but that should not be an issue finding one, but I really don't want to tear the dash apart to install the speaker, I hear it takes some work to get to it.
