The anemic 305 still resides under the hood today, it's been cleaned up, painted and made to look decent, but its days are numbered.

At the time I was living in an apartment, so I had to shuffle the car around from borrowed spaces in different friends shops/garages.
The first shop it was in was a friends body shop, it was there for a couple of months before he went out of business and put the car in the back of a packed storage building for a few months, stripped to bare metal all the while. I came close to losing the car then as he stopped paying rent on the building at one point.
I eventually got into the building myself, having to empty it myself to dig the car out of the back, there were a few other cars in there as well that I had to push out to get to my car. After a few hours I got the Camaro out and trailered it to another friends garage at his house, where I got a good start on the body work. After 8 months I wore my welcome, & we finally got a house with a garage, where I finished the bodywork and painted the car. The wiring, suspension, interior, etc, were done here at home as well.
Anyways, along the way I took the car down to bare metal, cut out rust, welded in good metal, hours upon hours of bodywork, here are a few pics:

dwright406 04-22-2008, 01:46:16 PM The car came home in July of ’05, parts of it in indigo blue.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_0945.jpg
All the progress from here on out happens in that little garage.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_0949.jpg
After time to think I changed my mind on the color, I was so used to sanding it didn’t phase me to scratch off that new shiny paint.
By January ’06 most of the bodywork was done and it was one color:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_2385.jpg
The next few months my time went to re-wiring the whole car, stripping and PORing the undercarriage, floor pans, replacing bushings, etc. Nothing exciting so I’ll spare you guys.
I would say that I built the car myself, but I did have a ‘little’ help from time to time…
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Zach/100_2003.jpg

dwright406 04-22-2008, 01:46:54 PM March ’06, I finally felt the bodywork was ‘good enough’, the conditions were right, so I started spraying paint, ‘Platinum Silver Metallic’.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_2631.jpg
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_2684.jpg
Painted it in ‘batches’ to break it up into small jobs, since I’m so limited on space.
Eventually everything was (different shades of) one color.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_3349.jpg
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_3345.jpg
After I had it that far I scuffed it all down with 400 grit, gave it a good dusting of silver to make it uniform, masked off the stripes, sprayed the black then poured on the clear.

dwright406 04-22-2008, 01:47:25 PM By November ‘06 I had it on the road, since then I’ve put about 5,000 miles on her, just putting around, used it for my daily driver up until December ’07.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_2108.jpg
Now days she spends most of her time filling the space in the garage, occasionally I’ll still take her out, but the 305 is not long for this world, it takes a lot of the joy out of driving her, but I’ve got a cure for that sitting on the engine stand right now.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_3557.jpg
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_3562.jpg
I got a heck of a deal on a really nice 406, I’m freshening it up at the moment, new gaskets, bearings, etc.
That’s where I’m at right now, I can’t wait to yank this 305 out and kick it to the curb.
Jazn_84 04-22-2008, 02:15:48 PM Nice lookin ride!! It's come a long ways since you drug it home. Great work!!!
SR79 04-22-2008, 02:45:01 PM awesome work, especially with the space constraints you've had. Love the color combo, should be just about perfect with the new motivation under the hood. Keep us updated!
72BIGBLOCK 04-22-2008, 03:04:32 PM very nice
CrazyCamaro 04-22-2008, 04:08:27 PM Great work, nice color too!
John Wright 04-22-2008, 05:40:37 PM "509" block awaiting it chance at that car....cool
green 1977 04-22-2008, 05:50:50 PM Very Nice:)
Ls1smlblck 04-22-2008, 08:42:52 PM very nice, was the whole thing painted in the garage?
Keizer 04-22-2008, 09:37:11 PM I always followed your progress since I became a member here. That new engine is going to be sweet!!
Keep us posted.
dwright406 04-22-2008, 10:34:13 PM Thanks everyone for the comments, I'm proud of how it's turned out so far. I get lots of compliments everywhere I go in it, even though it sounds like a turd.
I bought the 406 complete from a guy down the street, it's extremely clean inside, cylinders are still crosshatched, etc. I took the crankshaft to the machine shop for inspection, it got a real light polish.
I pulled all the plugs out of the block and went to town with a bunch of simple green, rifle brushes and a 3000 psi pressure washer, it looked clean before, now there's no doubt.
I'm not real impressed with the heads/cam that came with the 406, but I'm going to run it like it came until I can save up for a better top end.
The dude I bought it from told me it had "camel hump" heads, when in reality they're 434 casting 267/305 heads that have 2.02/1.60 stainless race flow valves, screw in studs and guide plates, but haven't been touched with a die grinder.
I don't think they're worth the trouble to port.
He said the cam was "Something like a 225ish duration @ .050, .450 - .460 lift split profile cam."
I figure 406 cubes should make that cam sound awful mild. He had it in a third gen with a throttle body, it also came with the throttle body intake, but I've got an air gap for it.
I've also got a TCI 3000 stall converter, a new posi, rearend rebuild kit (bearings, seals, etc), I've got a set of 3:73's and a set of 4:10 gears, the car has an 8.2 10 bolt so I'm searching for an 8.5 housing to build, with the 3:73's.
All I'm lacking to assemble the engine is the gasket kit, I've got other household projects happening right now so the 406 is on temporary hold at the moment. It should be nice when it all comes together, I can't wait.
very nice, was the whole thing painted in the garage?
Painted it right there in the middle of the garage, duct taped around the door going inside, kept the fumes out.
First time I sprayed it in there I left the big door cracked, but that left it too foggy in there.
Sealer:

First base coat:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_2674.jpg
I think this was after 2 base coats and maybe 2 light coats of clear:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_2676.jpg
When I painted it after that I just left the doors wide open, shot it on a nice day with the floors wetted down, didn't get any trash in the paint, it turned out slick I think.
You can see the pics of it in the garage after I cleared it for the last time, after the stripes went on, that's just how I sprayed it.
I always followed your progress since I became a member here. That new engine is going to be sweet!!
Keep us posted.
Thanks man, that means a lot coming from you, I've drooled over your progress along the way as well, wishing mine turned out as clean as yours :)
tom3 04-22-2008, 11:22:19 PM Good turnout for that project for sure. I think I'd wait on that gearing until after the engine is in and you drive it a bit. I suspect that 406 will be a torque monster with little top end and lower gearing will hurt it more than help. Be fun to cruise in though. I can remember painting in my two car garage, real treat there. I like to paint outside, early in the morning while the grass is damp, no wind, lower sun angle. Fresh air to breathe. Like to paint smaller sections rather than the whole car at once.
KJZ28 04-23-2008, 12:31:57 PM That came out real nice!!!! Good job!! Makes me think I can paint my car in my garage.
jose's 73 04-23-2008, 02:01:21 PM looks great. what was wrong with the 305, to slow, no pick up?
woody80z28 04-23-2008, 03:38:17 PM I like it. Dark Indigo Blue metallic is my color of choice. That silver looks great on yours though. I'm looking to build a 406 myself.
K5JMP 04-23-2008, 04:12:16 PM waaay cool pics of your boy helping!!!:)
dwright406 04-23-2008, 06:04:17 PM The 305 is just plain worn out, it's gutless & they aren't worth rebuilding IMO, but this particular block is junk since half of the starter pad is broken off, somehow it starts (after a few tries) despite missing a starter bolt.
I think the plan with the new setup will go like this:
I'll get the 406 built, pull the 305/th350, freshen up the trans and stick the TCI converter in it and drop that in the Camaro and cruise with it for a while as I don't have an 8.5 housing to build right now anyways.
I need to get a set of SFC's before long as well.
Eventually I want to get some decent heads and matching cam for it, I'd really like a set of Brodix IK's, but we'll see.
I've also got an MSD 85551 dist, 6AL box and blaster 2 coil, and a set of Comp 1.52 roller tips from my last 400 that I'll use with this one.
At any rate I'll just be happy with a healthy small block in this car.
And thanks again for all the nice comments, I saw potential and never gave up on this car.
dwright406 04-30-2008, 04:22:22 PM A little more progress to report.
The 406 is now an assembled shortblock.
This weekend I'm hoping I can have the heads ready to bolt on, going to clean up the ports a little before I put them back together.
Slowly but surely...

Mr_Metal 05-02-2008, 02:39:47 PM ...it's coming along nicely ! Love the paint and stripes too...
dwright406 05-02-2008, 06:13:04 PM Thanks :)
The gasket kit has been ordered, so I should have a complete 406 sitting on the engine stand by next weekend.
I've been going to town with the buffer lately when I'm bored, she didn't lose much shine, but she's looking new again. ;)
dwright406 05-12-2008, 03:02:20 AM It's together :)

a79Classic 05-12-2008, 04:09:03 AM WOW.. Congrats on the progress man!! REALLY nice lookin car bud.. You do nice work..:bowtie:
Bigdog 05-13-2008, 10:12:27 PM I am headed home tomorrow David, let me know if you want to swap it out in the next 2 weeks while I am off.
Keizer 05-13-2008, 10:19:44 PM Looks good!! That new engine is going to make a world of difference.
dwright406 05-14-2008, 02:49:33 AM Thanks a bunch guys.
I did a little more to the 406 today, spent most of the day searching for my oil pump primer, but I'm still searching.
How you been David? Haven't heard from you in a while.
I'm thinking about pulling the 305 in the next week or so, only thing is I don't have a carb yet, biggest one I have is the 600 Holley on the 305 now, think the 406 will want a little more than that.
And I want to freshen up the th350 before I drop the 406 in there, I don't have the $ for the trans kit at the moment.
But depending on what's going on in the coming days/weeks, that 305 just may find itself in the scrap pile before long.
Marks71BB 05-14-2008, 03:06:58 AM I cant wait to see the 406 at work!!
beautifull job on the car man!!
Its great inspiration:D gret job on the paint!!! I hope to do as well as you did..
Sparx 05-14-2008, 08:08:33 PM Man that Looks Good. Great Work ! You Built One Sweet Ride.
just resealed the rear glass and ordered weather striping to stop our floors from getting wet. 1 new floor pan, carpet, then interior/seats and next winter then the body, you will love the 400cid, we just put a fresh 10.5:1CR 400 with forged pistons with GM #186 camel humps, and a healthy bump stick and a Holley 750 DP in my sons 74 Camaro. we have a long way to go yet.........
keep us posted on yer Camaro...

Been busy knocking out Honey-do's so I can squeeze in more car time!
I think I have 2 different 750's here if you want to run one of them for a while.
dwright406 05-15-2008, 12:18:43 PM Hey if you have a 750 that I can use for a bit, it would help, I appreciate it.
With gas prices the way they are it wouldn't get used too much.
When would be a good time to swing by?
73Z28LT 05-15-2008, 12:30:54 PM great to see all the progress along the way....Congrats car looks hot...
nice motor too.

dwright406 07-24-2008, 12:46:39 AM Figure I'm due for an update
Well the 406 is in, running and driving.
Minutes before extraction, the last pic of the 305 gracing the engine bay:

The 406 fell right into place and made itself at home right away:

With most everything in place, here's how it looks right now:

First off I don't believe too many folks here know we have a world class carb builder right here as a member of this great forum. Nate (79CamaroZ28) out of Tuscon Az is as good as they come, as far as I'm concerned.
What you are looking at is a custom built 4777 Holley built to match my setup by Nate. I had the body sitting on a shelf in my garage, I sent it to Nate with all my info, and he built me one bad ass carb! I couldn't be happier with it.
He modified it with 4 corner idling circuits, billet base plate and metering blocks and a few other "tricks".
I received it back from him, took it straight out of the box and bolted it on, I can't imagine another carb being any more responsive than this thing.
Nate really knows his stuff, I'd recommend him for any of your carburetor needs.
I've been meaning to get a video posted up showing off this carb to put a good word out there for Nate, life's gotten in the way a bit lately but I plan on getting on that very soon. Friday's supposed to be nice weather so watch for that.
The carb is sitting on a Dart Kool Can dual plane intake, an MSD 85551 billet distributor, Blaster 2 coil and 6AL box for the ignition is all topping off the 406. For what it is I'm real happy and impressed with how it runs and sounds, it's got quite a mean sounding lope at idle for such a small cam, and there seems to be plenty of power/torque on hand.
BIG improvement over the 305.
enjoideviantly 07-24-2008, 01:05:56 AM ill keep him in mind!!
I can't wait to have my 70 eventually :) I want it to be more of a laid back cruiser though, but I still want to 406 my 80! :D
great color, glad to see the update
woody80z28 07-24-2008, 12:00:49 PM Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!!!!!
SHANE 73Z 07-24-2008, 07:24:57 PM Congrats on the 406 swap. I am just finishing up mine as well.
Should be a good time! Very clean car.
Shane
dwright406 11-16-2008, 09:51:10 PM I decided to test fit the cowl hood before I put anymore bodywork into it, I think I may leave it on since it gives me the room I needed for the air filter (the stock hood was about an inch above the top of the carb, I actually had to shorten the front vent tube the clear the hood.)
The new hood is ugly, but it gives me the clearence I need, the top of the air cleaner is about an inch from the hood now.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_4796.jpg
I'll get some paint on it before summer, hopefully.
I plan on getting into presentable flat black soon.
Here's the underside.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_4788.jpg
When you start running out of garage space, you have to get creative when storing large parts you don't want to sell.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_4799.jpg
Man I need to paint that ceiling...
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_4801.jpg
In other news, the 406 has really impressed me, it runs real strong considering the "junk" parts that are in it.
I haven't gotten any official #'s yet, still tuning on it, but it has no problem blazing the tire whenever I mash on it.
The 3000 stall TCI converter I dropped in a couple months back sure woke her up too!
Once I get a posi and some decent gears out back to go with the new 275/60/15 BFG TA's I just ordered things should improve even more! :D
I'll close with one last shot from tonight of the 406.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_4791.jpg
Coming soon, front suspension/brake rebuild... winter project
Marks71BB 11-16-2008, 10:19:26 PM Glad the engine is treating the car well.
Nice hood storage;) lol
Rickdef17 11-16-2008, 10:33:52 PM Sweet ride. Whats the inside look like? Your scaring me with that hood up there. I had a shop light fall on my car a couple years ago:eek: . Right on the quarter:eek: . Now I make sure no crap is above it!
dwright406 11-16-2008, 10:49:40 PM Sweet ride. Whats the inside look like? Your scaring me with that hood up there. I had a shop light fall on my car a couple years ago:eek: . Right on the quarter:eek: . Now I make sure no crap is above it!
Hmm, I don't seem to have any pictures of the interior, I'll get some shortly.
I'm pretty confident with the hanging of the hood, those 4 hooks are securely anchored into the studs and the edges of the hood are hooked in good enough it isn't falling out.
Oh yeah, got some antique license plates now too:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_4778.jpg
*edit* I went out and snapped some interior shots.
The theme of the interior is simple and black.
It's got ACC carpet (that seems to be going purple for some odd reason :(, more on that later), the original dash had a major curl to it, for now it's got a cap over it.
The front seats are ebay specials, they're comfortable but I don't like the look, as soon as I find some decent black original '70 seats, these are gone.
Back seats are just plain black stock '70 equipment.
New headliner and door panels too.
It's got an Alpine CD player, a pair of Rockford Fosgate 4"s in the dash and some Pioneer 6x9's out back, Autogage guages & tach, Hurst Quarter Stick, and a Grant carbon fiber wheel that was given to me for my 16th bday, and has been in every Camaro (and a Chevelle) I've had since.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_4807.jpg
Now to the carpet.
I've noticed some "purpling" mainly on the trans hump over the last year. I found it a bit odd since this carpet is only about 3 years old now, and this car spends a majority of the time sitting in the garage, not much exposure to UV's.
Well, I just looked under the passenger mat and found these mystery spots:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_4804.jpg
The carpet is going Michael Jackson on me!
I can't figure it out. The heater core is bypassed, it's never been wet, it spends 95% of its time sitting in the garage, I don't know.
I'm real surprised at this carpet, I expected better out of ACC.
woody80z28 11-17-2008, 09:06:05 AM Oh yeah, got some antique license plates now too:

I would have thought that 406 would put down more than 256hp at the rear wheels! haha
Car is looking good. I'm another one who joined the black cowl hood club since my combo is too tall for the stock one.
70sbudget 11-17-2008, 02:55:34 PM love the car. looking great. how much were your seats? do they recline at all? do they allow access to the back seat?
3SLO5 11-17-2008, 03:08:57 PM i havnt had good luck with acc i had a dark blue one that turned purple in a year.
Magnus 11-17-2008, 03:27:28 PM http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_2108.jpg
Where have I seen this picture lately ;) It's cool that it's such a low production car as #30. Awesome looking car, well done.
Magnus
dwright406 11-17-2008, 10:39:06 PM love the car. looking great. how much were your seats? do they recline at all? do they allow access to the back seat?
The seats were $300 shipped to my door, for the pair, IIRC.
The seatbacks fold forward/back by twisting the knob on the bottom. It's a bit of a PITA if you have to use it frequently, but I rarely have back seat passengers, so I don't recline them much.
They are comfortable and have great support, I'd just prefer the look of the stock low-back seats over these, these look out of place in this car to me.
I would have thought that 406 would put down more than 256hp at the rear wheels! haha
It's probably a bit higher than that, but I'm going for the sleeper look, hence the deceptive plate #. :D
Honestly I took the first pair of plates I came across as I wanted to take advantage of antique tags since my regular registration expired recently.
The antique registration is good for 5 years, and now I'm exempt from the annual safety inspection.
I just like the looks of the old plate on there.
dwright406 11-17-2008, 10:47:05 PM Where have I seen this picture lately ;) It's cool that it's such a low production car as #30. Awesome looking car, well done.
Magnus
Yeah I'm honored to grace the pages of calendar.
That is a good picture, I just wish I'd have left the front plate off back then.
Thanks for the compliments fellas, it means a lot.
dwright406 11-25-2008, 06:08:45 PM I flat-blacked the hood and have been driving it like this:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_4844.jpg
The cowl scoop doesn't look big at all from outside the car, but it's an eye-full from the inside.
There were already holes for hood pins, and the latch area didn't have any threaded inserts, so first I put in these Mr. Gasket locks where the pins go, but I didn't like the way they worked so I fabbed up a plate with threaded holes and mounted the original latch.
Once I get around to painting it I'll fill in the holes and use the latch exclusively.
Hopefully I'll get around to painting the hood this spring, there are a few spots on the body that I need to touch up at the same time.
dwright406 11-30-2008, 04:03:30 PM Here's a little video of it idling.
http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/?action=view¤t=100_4867.flv
A little rich on the idle circuits but it runs good, pulls like a freight train.
Took the camera with me on a little cruise today, check the oil pressure, it's still a bit cold, it stays around 50-60 psi at 180* at cruising speed.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_4845.jpg
Check the RPM's cruising in 3rd on the highway, the good thing about 3.08's.

dwright406 06-18-2009, 12:24:24 AM Time for a little update..
I'm trying to get the flat hood back on the car so I can get the glass hood worked out and ready to paint.
So in my futile efforts to cram this combo under my stock flat hood, here's what I'm up against.
The boss for the vacuum fitting in the intake is in the top of the #8 intake runner, just behind the carb.
I've been making it work with a 1" phenolic spacer, a brass 90* fitting under the rear bowl that tee's off into 2 hoses, one to the PCV and the other to the vacuum modulator on the th350.
I'm wanting to go back to the stock hood without changing intakes, so I did a little research and saw that Edelbrock makes a low profile fitting just for this, so I thought "Hell this might be my answer!"
Nope
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/100_5769.jpg
I'll admit I didn't give the situation much of an assessment before I ordered this fitting, it's obvious now that there's no way to make this work.
I've got a Holley Street Dominator that I'll probably throw on there next to see how that works.
Swamee 06-18-2009, 11:19:26 AM i like the cowl hood, do you know who makes it? and the height? the sides on the raised area have a nice slope to them, not so boxy looking.

I'm not sure who makes the hood, I think it's Unlimited but there are no labels anywhere.
It needs lots of sanding before it's straight enough for paint.
The cowl is somewhere around 2.5" - 3" tall.
sceld71 06-19-2009, 09:18:50 AM Hmm, I don't seem to have any pictures of the interior, I'll get some shortly.

Kill the cat, rabbit, or field mouse.

That is one healthy air cleaner. how much clearance is there with the stock hood on? I am running a Barry Grant 650 with a 3" filter and 1" drop base air cleaner on my vette with stock hood and still have 1/2" clearance. That is even with a 1" spacer.

With the stock hood I had to shorten the vent tubes on the carb to shut the hood, no way in hell a filter would fit at all.
With the cowl hood there might be 1.5" from the top of the filter to the bottom of the hood.
MagicRatt 06-20-2009, 01:53:33 PM Post 51.....a road with no buildings on it!!!! How did ya pull that off?? No such thing where I live........
z28rod 06-20-2009, 02:06:51 PM dwright406, how does the car accelorate with the 3.08 gears, iam running a 81 z28 w/406 with 3.42 gears and it runs 3 grand at 65 mph on interstate. iam also running 235/60/15 on rear also, this might ad a few hundred rpms to cruise also.

I found out the rear has 2.56's in it.
I can cruise at 70 @ about 2300 ~ 2400 rpms.
The 406 still makes enough torque to pull pretty decent despite the gearing.
Once I get an 8.5 housing I've got everything else to build a 3.73 posi rear for it.
z28rod 06-20-2009, 11:07:57 PM Man 2.56's wow that means with a 6000 rpm red line how fast would that be 150mph ?
dwright406 11-09-2009, 05:02:25 PM Update...
I got an 8.5 10 bolt from Bigdog on here.
I got it home and took the cover off, it's a 3.23 posi.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_6161.jpg
The brakes have seen better days, someone ran them until the rivets wore 1/2" deep grooves in the drums.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_6158.jpg
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_6159.jpg
So, this is the solution I've come up with:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_6162.jpg
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_6163.jpg
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_6164.jpg
I got the caliper brackets here:
http://www.speedwaymotors.com/GM-Caliper-Brackets,3346.html
I scored the rotors off ebay for $45, they are for a '65+ Vette.
I haven't gotten the calipers yet, but they are $12 each at the parts store.
The rear is the beginning of the winter upgrades, which will also include all new stainless hard brake lines and stainless braided soft lines, & a rebuild of the front suspension with Hotchkis springs and new rubber bushings throughout.
jayb53guy 11-09-2009, 09:56:30 PM Like those brakes, might have to look into those....
olstyle 11-09-2009, 09:57:21 PM Nice upgrade, with basic parts too.
Will ya still have an e-brake?
dwright406 11-09-2009, 10:04:33 PM No E-brake, the one on the car now doesn't work anyways.
olstyle 11-09-2009, 10:13:53 PM No E-brake, the one on the car now doesn't work anyways.
Ok, just wondering
dwright406 01-25-2010, 01:10:17 PM Time for a little update...
There have been a few changes since the last posts, nothing significant but I just got back from a little cruise, I took some new pics so I figured it was time for an update.
I went back to the stock hood, put the cowl in storage for now.
I traded the Hurst Quarterstick for a B&M Megashifter.
The Hurst shifter had some fubar'd linkage and never shifted right, it would get into a bind trying to go into 2, so I got used to leaving it in drive all the time.
The car feels a lot quicker now that I can wrap the 406 out to 5500.
I also threw in the Hotchkis springs, got rid of the sagging stockers.
I like the stance now, and the ride is MUCH better!
Enough of that, here's the pics from today:

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/dwright406/Camaro/100_6548.jpg
BTW that paint job is almost 4 years old now, it's holding up quite well for what it is, IMO.
I've had a lot of family drama and BS to deal with, I haven't made any more progress on the rearend.
I did, however, take possession of another 8.5 10 bolt rearend (Thanks 76_TypeLT), that I will set up with the 3.73's and posi I've been holding onto for years.
Next on the wish list, Alston subframe connectors and a set of drag radials.
noj akrog 01-25-2010, 01:19:17 PM looking good....
dwright406 01-25-2010, 05:21:02 PM Thanks Jon.
How's yours coming along? Any progress?
5spd540 01-25-2010, 07:40:52 PM Nice work.
noj akrog 01-25-2010, 09:10:17 PM naw Dave, the car needs the entire interior put back together and I've got most of the parts. Some need to be cleaned and painted to freshen them up. The main holdup is I still need to buy seat covers and headliner and there is not much spendable $$ in the house right now...I may just do what I can with what I've got and recover the seats later. we'll see...
1971CamaroGuy 10-05-2012, 08:26:37 AM Nice ride :bowtie:

Here are a few more pictures of the same bridge with the stock hood on the car, the cowl hood has been sold and gone for quite a while now.
This is the bridge that goes over the intracoastal Waterway, on the other side of the bridge you can see the beach and the Gulf of Mexico.

The '70 hasn't changed. It's been sitting in storage, in my Mom's garage across town actually, for a year. I go over about once a month, start it up and drive it around town a bit.
70sbudget 10-05-2012, 01:13:13 PM nice ride. your work has paid off
FlaJunkie 10-05-2012, 01:19:24 PM It never ends, does it? Great work! ;)
I would double-check those roof supports for that hood. Hate to see it fall...on someone/something.
