I dropped the 454 crate motor in the 78 rs and had everything hooked up. Poored some oil in the motor some coolant in the radiator and called it a night since the garage was closing and there is no arguing when they say its closed its closed. I get a half day off work the next day to go fire it up. I check the fluids.... oil, check.... coolant..... damn it! where is the coolant?! on the floor thats where. The motor had a cracked freeze plug! It happens to be the one on the passenger side under the motor mount. I tried putting in a freeze plug with out pulling the motor only to end up bending the hell out of it and making that one leak too. So now I am gona go to the parts store and buy an "expandable" freeze plug so I dont have to pull the motor yet again.

This ever happen to anyone? Any tricks to installing a freeze plug without pulling the motor?

Years ago I used one of those expandable freeze plugs on a car. I had serious doubts about it. But it held up and I didn't have any problems. Hopefully yours will be good too. Make sure you clean the freeze plug hole completely.
