View Full Version : The begining of a fired up 71
FIREDUP71 04-09-2008, 12:38:55 PM This car started out as my mom's very first new car in '71. Been in the family ever since. Quite a few firsts here: first new car, first car I ever drove, first car I ever went on a date in, first...well whatever, a lot of firsts.
They gave it to me 3 years ago after it had sat in their garage for a long time. Still only had 42K on it but just kind of sat and got a little ugly.
And yes it did have one of those funky vinyl tops (green with a black top...god what were they thinking). It got a repaint in 1980 to red because thats what my mom always wanted, a little better but still real ugly!
Here some of the tear down:

Great work on the resto of a beautifull full bumper 71. I like it a lot but I'm a lil partial;)
Keizer 04-09-2008, 10:47:25 PM Man that's a tuff looking ride. I love the welded up header gap. I wished I had done that too on my 73.
Chevrolaine 04-09-2008, 10:48:22 PM Wow, nice build! I love the header seam welded up, looks great.

Orange71 04-09-2008, 10:53:39 PM Great lookin' car!! Awesome flames...can't wait to see pics of it outside in the sunshine!!
Keizer 04-09-2008, 11:01:39 PM Great lookin' car!! Awesome flames.
Man, you don't know how close I came to having the whole front of my 73 flamed. I was going to go with something more subtle, in a silvery pearl hue. I decided on the Z stripes and ghost flames down the sides instead.
sceld71 04-09-2008, 11:02:43 PM If you need brake/fuel lines look at Right Stuff Detailing out of Sunbury/Westerville, Oh. I just re-did mine and did not have a single problem. I hightly recommend them.
ParkerRS 04-09-2008, 11:09:02 PM Looks really good I'll be watching this build. Looks like you had a heck of a solid starter to boot especially seeing that roof after the vinyl top was removed.

zeek 04-10-2008, 12:34:53 AM its to shiny needs some mud and rubber around those wheel wells and maybe a dent or scratch here and there ;)
71 Z27 LS3 04-10-2008, 12:36:36 AM Lookin good man, just love the flames.
Red70Camaro 04-10-2008, 01:43:59 PM Great looking car!.... Those flames look bad a$$! That paint job reminds me of the Camaro that Goodmark built.
FIREDUP71 04-10-2008, 01:54:38 PM Thanks. Those pictures suck. It was dark by the time I got home from work last night and the lighting was bad. I'll try to take some tonight with the garage doors open and swap those out crummy photos out.
Jazn_84 04-10-2008, 02:18:36 PM Awesome flame job man!!! Great lookin car!
masparks 04-10-2008, 02:24:13 PM i'm a fan of flames, very very nice!! thought it was the goodmark car at frist!
very nice!!!
John Wright 04-10-2008, 03:15:13 PM The thin, blue edging around the flames is an awsome touch...great job!!!
FIREDUP71 04-10-2008, 03:35:30 PM Thanks, I have to put better pictures up because you can barely even see that in these. I used all House of Kolor paints they are awsome. First we applied the flame stencils and everything got shot in pearl white. Then the cobolt blue outline. Taped over that with 1/4 inch pinstrip tape and shot the yellow, orange , red in that order. Followed by about three coats of clear blocked and sanded smooth. The pictures really don't do it justice but I appreciate the compliments for sure!
protour73 04-10-2008, 04:27:27 PM Dave, are you sure you are not building the Goodmark 71 Camaro???
