Does anyone know where the "Governor" is located on a 1981 Camaro Z-28 350? Also, how to disconnect it?

There is no speed-limiting 'governor' in 2nd Gen. vehicles. About the only 'governor' in the whole car is in the transmission and it partially controls shift points- not maximum speed/rotation. If you believe you are "running out of steam" too early- this is not the problem.

The speed governor on a stock '81Z is found under the hood, right there between the fenders. It is a big blue thing that weighs around 550 lbs and wheezes it way to about 190 peak hp in a good state of tune.

Removing it is a good idea as long as you put a real engine back in its place.

Yeah......You guys are very funny!!!!!!!!!! Thanks!LOL!! Are you guys sure though? Because it will not go over 85mph. Once I reach 85, it has alot more pedal left, and when it's pressed further, it revs up more But, it will not go passed 85. ( keep in mind this is the year the eletronics first started on them.)

something is wrong with your car, it definitely should go faster than that.

how do you know your not going past 85 because thats what your speedo should stop at in an 81, theres no more #'s after that.

I changed gauges to 130mph

If it "revs up more" then obviously either the engine speed is not finding it's way to the rear wheels- i.e. slipping transmission or bad lockup converter. The other item is that maybe the engine revs higher- great- but there's still not enough power to get you anywhere- i.e. are you going up a hill at 85 and trying to go faster? Maybe into a strong wind? Maybe you're running 15" wide tires on the back? Definetly you have a problem. Also- forget your speedometer for the moment- when your hear engine rev higher do you actually go any faster (i.e. what do you feel- forget what the guage indicates)?
