View Full Version : edelbrock performer causes exhaust popping chikababam 12-10-2002, 09:15:00 PM I just installed a performer intake on my 350, and now, around 4 grand, i get popping out of the exhaust and cant go any faster. whats the deal? MikeM79 12-10-2002, 09:28:00 PM Check your ignition timing. You had to pull the distributor to swap intakes (one of those small block chevy things). This creates an opportunity for the timing to change inadvertantly. bigblock72camaro 12-10-2002, 09:38:00 PM If it's not the timing, You could have created a large vaccum leak which would cause a verry lean mixture , which in turn could cause the popping you describe. ------------------ 72 camaro- 461 bbc,12.5 to 1, Merlin heads, Comp. Very easy to not get the timing set back right on a chevy the 1st time.. I end up having to set mine twice, cause of the oil pump drive shaft and the dist tang, not wanting to line up right Eric 12-11-2002, 04:10:00 AM Check for bad ignition wire/wires- if one or more have burnt through you will have this problem when you 'hit it' hard or are at high rpm. wayner 12-11-2002, 11:12:00 AM When the intake manifold is replaced the engine has a different reaction to fuel and timing. I would suggest to retime the engine and recalibrate the carb (idle mixture and jetting) as well as the other things suggested by everyone else!
