Martin71RS 04-19-2008, 03:57:21 PM Thanks guys!
All the seams have been welded, doors shaved and bumpers shaved.
I did some more work today.....getting there :-)
We just have 1 track here, 3 races a year...so racing won't happen probably, just "spirited" road driving....
Martin71RS 06-11-2008, 06:33:32 PM Finally had some time to make the paint update on my page:
www.pro-touring.nl

enjoideviantly 06-11-2008, 06:50:58 PM congrats! thats hot stuff!
I'd love shaved handles just to see the looks of people when they realize they don't exist on the outside. :D
priceless.
g71rs 06-11-2008, 06:58:32 PM nice...you shaved your bumper bolts too..shaved handles....bumpers match color of car...looks great
Martin71RS 07-07-2008, 05:09:56 AM finally went to my first meeting....
I had to repaint the right inner fender last week since it didn't look good, now it does.
Still have to finish off the AC and reupholster the rear seat and some small stuff.
driving home late I was at a traffic light and some guys in a car next to me rolled down the windows to listen to my car (don't we all do that?) so when we left the lights I just rolled out slowly and when they were ahead of me I floored it.....
I passed them and kept on it...late and an empty road....then somewhere around the 40~50mph the wheels started spinning so I let off the gas and corrected the car.
even though the road was a bit wet I never experienced this, knew the motor has power but this is cool
Now finally I can start driving it again.....very happy about that!

Jim Stokkeland 07-07-2008, 06:00:01 AM Awesome car Martin!
John Wright 07-07-2008, 08:31:32 AM Awesome car Martin!+1...love it!
Venom73 07-07-2008, 10:19:27 AM Awesome car. I would have to say shorten up that exhaust but other than that I Love it.
Martin71RS 07-07-2008, 03:06:42 PM Thanks for the kind words!! actually the exhaust is cut off allready, it now ends behind the rear wheel at leaf spring height, hardly visible and does not stick out from under the body. I even painted the ends black so they are not visible through the wheelwells.

79CamaroMan 09-06-2008, 12:04:47 PM I'm sure you mentioned it somewhere, but where are those wheels from? they remind me of something you would see on an Audi. The wheels look great on your Camaro!
masparks 09-06-2008, 03:17:38 PM Beautiful !!!
Martin71RS 09-06-2008, 05:34:53 PM thanks guys!
The wheels are from OZ racing type Saturn+ and originally meant for BMW 5 series.
regards,
Martin
Martin71RS 03-03-2009, 05:37:41 AM Saturday I washed the Camaro so it would look good Sunday at the event at Zandvoort track here in the Netherlands.
it was a tuning/race event with time attack (road course), drift and 1/4mile sprint. Most of it were (what you consider) imports...some serious stuff there too!
I entered the 1/4 (on the track's straight) to see what my car would do. Remember this is not a dedicated 1/4mile track, we do not have one in our country. Grip was terrible....but I must admit I did not change anything to my car like tire pressure e.g.
This was my first 1/4mile with a car so it was exiting (10years ago I drove ultimate street bike series with a GSXR1100)
First run I had massive wheelspin from the start so had to correct and lost time there...I also shifted from 1 to Drive...so 3rd gear came too soon. Result: 15.87sec @142.57km/h 89mph
second run was a lot better, launched half throttle and then smashed it, shifted @5000 to 2nd and then again @5000 to 3rd.
This appeared to work best for me and the Camaro.
In the end I did 5 runs (only have 4 timecards)
My car:
400 chevy small TH350, 1:2.73 axle with powertraxx, 275/45/17 goodyear street tires and OMVL LPG with Technocarb. (propane)
my best result despite the lack of traction: 15.182sec @152.87km/h 95.5mph (other times/speeds were not far off)
just before my last run it started to rain....I got wheelspin again when I shifted to 2nd, so that was it for me. Not much later the event was stopped because of the rain.
I am very happy with the results, had a fun day and the Camaro did great.
on the way back to the start we had to drive the whole road coarse....I did my first drift attempts I am getting a feel for the car now. I was afraid to try it out on the streets, risks are too high in my opinion. On the track I had plenty of space and I was not afraid to hit anything.
temp went up to 200~210 1 or two times but stayed at or under 180 almost all the time. oil pressure was good and constant too.
The motor was running for 3 hours or so altogether. After the event I just drove it home.....gotta love pro-touring
you can see me go at youtube too

iregret 03-03-2009, 05:59:45 AM Wait. Your cars propane? It's such a cool car. What did other people have to say? It's pretty uncommon to see an old Camaro isn't it?
Martin71RS 03-03-2009, 06:18:47 AM Thanks, it did get noticed  but there are still a lot of Camaros here in the Netherlands. (I guess a lot of people in the USA would be surprised if they visit a meeting here)
do some clicking here:

chevy-stu 03-03-2009, 08:02:35 AM Really interesting mix of cars there... car's looking great too !!
KylePBZ 03-03-2009, 11:03:53 AM Man that all silver looks great! Good job.
Martin71RS 03-04-2009, 05:35:48 AM Thanks! happy to say I found the results on the DHRA website and the one timesheet I didn't have was the best! 0.774 14.809sec@154.18km/h (96.36MPH)
I am gathering pics now and will add them on my page in a week or 2

evesautomotive 03-07-2009, 12:11:29 PM pretty car. too bad you didn't beat that lil ricer
Martin71RS 03-07-2009, 04:23:47 PM thanks! there were some pretty fast cars there.....even ricers. (gutted cars, so very light and drag slicks + plenty of power) still I am very happy with the results since my car is not set up for drags.
I am however working on putting in a fuel system so I car run gasoline for these kind of events (swap carbs and pick up 100hp at least) to improve my times.
still, I bought my engine from the dutch champion in the street class, he ran 13sec with it in a 1st gen camaro with 3.07? gears and set up for racing,
so I wouldnt have been able to get the Honda anyways.

Martin71RS 03-10-2009, 07:53:06 AM found a vid of my best time....
grip was bad so had to start part throttle (which caused me to think too much and react slow)

musclecarjohn 03-10-2009, 05:33:44 PM Love the color-matched bumpers,that's brilliant...!
Keizer 03-10-2009, 05:36:36 PM Love the color-matched bumpers,that's brilliant...!
I agree, it looks great with that body color. I'm not sure how well it would look though with other hues.
Martin71RS 06-11-2009, 03:00:31 AM Finally an update on the Camaro with lots of drag race movies (in the Netherlands!) this time.

falloutboy 12-10-2010, 11:35:27 AM Holy smoke how could I have missed such a great neighbor car?
The Netherlands are still some pretty good km away, however.
Cool car you got. Have to check your web page out, closely
Martin71RS 07-11-2011, 11:25:46 AM We have started a club here in the Netherlands about 1,5 year ago to get Pro-touring guys together.
Today we had our first auto-x :smoke:!!
We needed help since auto-x is not known here so we had no clue on how to set-up a proper track.
One of the guys asked for help to Roger Johnson, author of the Solo II course design manual, and designer of SCCA championship SoloII autocross tracks.
He layed out a track for us (we could use the airstrip on a militairy base where the Dutch Mustang club was having their annual meeting...big thanks to them too!) so we owe him a BIG thank you!!
I bought a GoPro motorsports HD camera last week since this would be my first track event (apart from the 1/4 miles I've run in the past) but certainly not my last.
I am very happy with how my Camaro performed. about 110miles to get to the event, some 1/4mile passes and then the auto-x and 110miles back. Turnes out my "lame" 2.73 rear axle was perfect for the auto-x, I could run it completely in 1st gear!! First time I did some sliding and drifting too, I just did't have nuts (or maybe just enough brains) to do stuff like this on the street.
I have been high on adrenaline all afternoon Wohooooo!
enough talk, some movies we've made:

Martin71RS 08-31-2011, 04:33:06 PM Our club ( Pro-Touring / G-Machine Challenge ) was invited to give a demo on the Fast-Car-Festival on the famous Dutch Zandvoort track.
We used the small track that was layed out for the drift series demo, but the corners were very tight so speed was very low....besides that the weather was bad, a lot of rain so it was slippery but we had fun.
All of us also booked a 20 minute open track session and we were lucky we had a reasonably dry track in the morning, this for me was the best part of the day.
This vids are from inside my car filmed with a GoPro HD camera, I took it slow in the beginning to get to know the track and warm the tires/get a feel for the car. Later in the session you can see I am picking up speed..... I was very happy with how the Camaro performed. (409cui SBC running on propane, TH350, 2.73:1 axle with Powertraxx)

this was filmed from the car directly behind me. I was amazed to see how fast it looks/goes compared to the Mustang behind me, I've been in that car too and it is really fast...my car feels neutral and very easy to drive and not as fast, the Stang defenately has more power than my car.
