Throttle 02-26-2008, 11:21:42 PM I finally had time to mess with the car, been so busy working on the customers cars.
I bought the quarterpanel for my car 8 months ago and then bought a new bike and havent really messed with it much since.. This weekend I finally messed with it again..
I will post pics in here when I take them..
I finally cut the old quarter off and now I just ordered the trunk extensions and patch panels for the passenger side..

c12mech 02-27-2008, 10:19:47 AM WOW!!!!

BTTB71SS 02-27-2008, 12:11:15 PM Yep had that much bondo on the one i am working on now, both rear quarters were like that
Throttle 02-27-2008, 03:18:42 PM Ugh, if it wouldnt have been for that idiot trying to fix it I wouldnt be having to buy a new trunk extension for that side..

Throttle 02-27-2008, 08:47:39 PM While im waiting on the patch panels, I figured I would do the stuff I can make here.. I had some cancer under the windshield from the guy not adjusting the driver and passenger window correctly.. So I made the patch for the driverside tonight..

This was just a skim coat, didnt need to do it but I figured I would to get any imperfection out. then it decided to make it look like it was going to rain and since im doing my car outside because all the customers car are taking up all the room inside I had to hurry and I didnt sand some spots enough.. I will go back over it tomorrow and then reprime.. :(

Real SS 03-21-2008, 03:34:19 PM Looks good. How was the other quarter?
Throttle 03-21-2008, 03:42:03 PM The quarter I took off of this side was smashed in a good 3 inches( then the idiot tried to fix it, which is why I didnt even try to fix it) and the quarter on the passenger side has the usual rust in the bottom of the rear section and a little in the front by the door..
Throttle 04-02-2008, 01:02:33 AM Did the rear passenger side patch on the quarter..

1Fast79Z28 04-02-2008, 11:06:26 AM Nice work Throttle.
Hey lemme ask you a couple questions on body work equipment.
Im going to purchase a new bigger compressor this year a 5hp 80 gal 15cfm
My goals are to have enough air to of course run standard air tools and a DA but I also want to start painting and sand blasting.
With this commpressor power do you think I could sand blast projects as large as a full size truck frame? Plus what kind of sand blaster would you recommend?
Throttle 04-02-2008, 01:54:09 PM It will get it done, but it will be slow going.. You will have to wait for it to catch up.. I have Two 5 hp 80 gal compressor going, one to start pumping up the other when it starts to get low and then the other kicks on.. Of course they are both cast iron, I dont like these late model Aluminum pumped ones..
Throttle 04-08-2008, 04:33:49 PM Finally got the passenger quarter patches done..

That pretty much is all the metal work for the body now, I still have to fix some little holes in the floor board.. Atleast I can start the process of getting it straight and in primer.. :D
Throttle 04-17-2008, 12:30:23 AM I bought a original Upper rear body panel off of ebay, I got it for 15.00 plus 8.99 shipping.. :D
No dents, had some pits on the bottom side, still much better then the one that was on it... :D

Throttle 06-07-2008, 01:48:43 PM I have to get the subframe out from under it and send it out to get it sandblasted by a guy that owes me.. The Control Arms will be here Monday along with the Hood.. Im still waiting on the front brakes kit, should look pretty good.. I bought Z51 brakes for the front and got the calipers in Silver and I was kind of pissed because SSBC rear brake kit comes in a goldish color and I was going to have to send them out to get done silver , when I opened the box for the SSBC rear brake kit I saw that the calipers are silver.. WOOT!!! One less thing I have to worry about.. :D
Keizer 06-07-2008, 02:35:27 PM not if you do it correctly, I had mine filled in......with metal, they were welded and smoothed
I wanted mine welded in too, but my painter didn't recommend it for the same reason Throttle mentioned above. It's not like he was trying to get out of it, since he charged by the hour. Personally, I think it would have been fine welded up and smoothed out, but then I'm not a body and paint guy.

Door finally showed up in one peice after DHL trying to find my shop 3 days in a row, thanks again Mark Sparks for the awsome deal.. :D
P.S.- DHL SUCKS!!!!
I wouldnt even wish this kind of crap on an enemy.. It took 4 days in a row just to get them to understand that I wanted to pay for a item that is getting shipped to me.. It took 4 days for them to believe me that there is a 1019 Roy Creek Trail(where my shop is) and then they kept changing their stories on why it wasnt delivered and sitting at the Depot..The most messed up part is that they have shipped to me before..
Thank God that is over with..

No offense, but I sure as hell hope not. Those are powdercoated you know. If you have any issues with fitment and need to break out the grinder let me know and we'll go another route, no need to do anything drastic and I've got many more on hand :)

Brian 06-30-2008, 04:20:33 AM I like the fact that you used the factory piece because I think they have a nicer look to them than some of the aftermarket pieces. Could you please show some pictures from behind and maybe some side shots of the smaller gauges, it’s hard to actually see how they are sitting because of what looks to be shadows on the left and right sides. Be nice to see how it’s going to look installed in the dash as well. Nice work.

The factory differential has a triangle shape for the factory rubber spacer to slide into, the Moser is flat with a hole in it..

Throttle 09-07-2008, 12:57:58 PM I finally started to mess with the door I recieved from MarkSparks here at Nasty.. It turns out that the door was worse then I thought, when it left Mark's home it was in pretty good shape, then DHL got their hands on it.. That is where it goes down hill.. :(
They droped it on every corner and front and back, the window crank area is caved in.. The door is pretty much destoryed, so I decided to fix the door on the car..

rustover 09-09-2008, 11:38:06 PM Throttle, the car is looking real good. That sucks about the donar door. I have a question. What trick is that with the tape over the body line? I 'm guessing you sand up to the tape to provide a crisp edge? Just curious. I don't know much about body work and I'm planning on doing my own. Thanks, Russ

Ghost73 09-18-2008, 11:11:27 PM Looks good! Question. What are you going to do with the seems between the quarters and tail panel? I know originally they were seem sealed on the top.
just my o2 cuz im a noob, but what if you welded them from inside the trunk for the most support.
Ghost73 09-18-2008, 11:17:12 PM also just curious how much a build like this would cost?
Throttle 09-18-2008, 11:21:23 PM also just curious how much a build like this would cost?
Well, im guessing I will have about 35,000 in parts on it before it is done and the labor would match that easily..
You could do it alot cheaper, I have replace just about every running gear peice(tranny, engine, rearend, brakes, and suspension)..There is nuthing on this car that is factory other then the body panels.. You could save probably 10,000 easy by using the parts that came with the car.. This car is not only for me to enjoy, but also to show the quality work that my shop does.. So I am taken it to the limit.
1000hp 496 on the juice-check
Stop on a dime-check
turn like it is on rails-check
Have Ice blowing out of the vents-check
and to make peoples jaws drop-this will be a check once it is done.. :D
Throttle 09-18-2008, 11:29:49 PM just my o2 cuz im a noob, but what if you welded them from inside the trunk for the most support.
They would still probably leak, if you know what you are doing nobody would see the sealer on there anyways..
Ghost73 09-19-2008, 05:47:28 PM thanx for the advice. this build up of your car is one that i will be looking at a lot when i go to do mine. mine needs complete overhauling. but i have never done anything like this before. the hardest part about it is gettin the money. lol

Hey man, First off nice work!
I've got a fender with damage in those same locations and wanted to ask a few ?'s about how you went about repairing this one.
First, is the top patch (black one) in the above photo from an aftermarket lower patch panel? If so, why did you make two patches instead of just using the entire lower portion of the aftermarket patch panel? Thicker sheet metal on the bottom?
If it is not aftermarket, what did you use to make the shape of the contour to match the rest of the fender, and did you have to use an english wheel or any special tool(s) to form the lower half of the patch.
Did you replace parts of the inner support sections as it looks like you can see through parts of that too?
Finally, what is the best way (tools) to use to shape the filler in area's with body lines and contours like there are on the lower body line?

Answers:
#1- I use a peice of a aftermarket quarter panel and used my metal break to make the body lines.. I just bent it around my leg slowly to make the right curve..
#2- Yes I did replace most of the inner fender support and put POR15 on it.. I didnt take pics of that..
#3- I use a sanding board, you can buy them from eastwood..

ChevyReb 10-23-2008, 11:38:09 PM Thanks for the responces, I'm trying to gain as much knowledge as possible to make good decisions on my car.
I am a rookie on the filler stuff so I am attempting to get a better understanding on that aspect.
So a metal break can make complex curves? I thought it was to make right angle bends. Do you happen to have a pic or link to one of the sanding board?
Also, why did you use two pieces of patch panels for the bottom?
Thanks,

I actually didnt notice the rust up higher and I had already started the patch on the bottom.. So I just made another one.. I use the break to make the body line and I use my thigh to do the rest of the curve for the fender patch..
These are what I use most of the time..

Yeah, I bought those wheels for him.. It has a Ford Motorsport 306 with ported heads, Comp Cam, Upgraded Rockers,Underdrive Pulleys, and intake w/ BBK Throttle Body on it , small cam, Shorty Headers, Off Road H Pipe, SVO Front brakes and SuperCoupe Rear disc, Moser Axles, 3.73 with T-Lok, and Upgraded Injectors and Fuel Pump.. That is all I can think of.. He ran a 12.8@ 109 before the 3.73's(had2.73's) and ported heads and intake.. It has Ford Motorsport Springs, sway bars and Adjustable camber plates in it for suspension.. For looks it has Mach 1 Replica Wheels(Front:17x9 w/ 245.45.17/Rear:17x10.5 Deep Dish w/ 285/40/17's), Steeda Spoiler(not pictured) and he plans on getting a 82-86 hood scoop once we can find one..

Now I have to make panels to fill the holes in the firewall and finish the passenger floor pan and then I am done with metal work.. I still need to do the second stage of bodywork on the nose and start trying to fit that damn hood.

Throttle 12-22-2008, 12:34:47 AM If I am understanding your question right.. Both of those patch panels are from the Classic Industries Floor Pan I got..
krabben1 12-22-2008, 07:39:57 AM Yeah,no biggie. They offer both. One full pan (USA) and then the reg.repop one.I used the repop one.
Throttle 12-22-2008, 10:00:00 AM Yeah, I bought the full passenger floor pan from front to back..

Nice...:bowtie:
Throttle 12-27-2008, 08:44:57 PM I did some more little stuff today.. I sandblasted and painted the hood hinges and Hood Latch.. I was going to put the hood on to start fitting it and noticed that the hood was not very nice where it went over the mold with the extra fiberglass, so I trimmed it down.. It looks alot better now, now I just need to get it to look better when it is on the car.. Which is what I will start on tomorrow..
Pics in a little while, Camera died on me.. :(
Throttle 12-27-2008, 10:55:27 PM Here are the pics, I think I might cut some more off..

Throttle 12-27-2008, 11:07:02 PM I was looking at it and decided to make the Hood Bumper on the front and rear work on this hood.. I will be putting some Dzus Fastners on it just incase also..

That sucks you have to work on it to get it to fit.I was under the impression the bigger name companies sent you a finished product.Im sure youll make it look good.I do like how they finished the exposed cowl part, with the screens.Nothin fancy, but it looks good.I gotta figure out some thing for my cowl(steel) when the time comes.

It isnt bad, it actually fits really good for a fiberglass hood, but im going to make it fit like a factory.. It says you have to do some trimming around the edges to fit your car, no big deal..
Throttle 12-28-2008, 08:42:53 PM Did some work on the hood, made the hood bumpers and seal work..

BB72R-Yes 12-28-2008, 08:51:01 PM Looking pretty slick Throttle. Great thread you got going. ? Is the driverside front corner up because of the bumper you installed or does the hood need tweakin'. Keep up the awsome work can't wait to see it done.
Throttle 12-28-2008, 08:56:46 PM The Hood needs tweaking, I will fix that when I add to the sides..
krabben1 12-28-2008, 10:01:03 PM Excellent work on the body, looks nice and straight.
