View Full Version : Need pictures of original seat belts in 70-73 Camaros

can someone post some pics of original seat belts in a 70-73 Camaro (mine is a 1972)? the previous owner of my car only left the shoulder belt and one female buckle on the front seats. i searched through the old posts, but pictures are missing so i still have some questions:
how do the lap and shoulder belts work when used together - are there 2 female ends (one for each buckle) or do they both connect to one buckle somehow?
are the front male lap belts supposed to be retractable?
is there a third middle seat belt set in the back or just the two?
can anyone tell me what lengths (inches) the belts are for each seat - i assume front and back are different?
thanks for any help.

The rear only has belts for 2 passengers, I'm not sure but I think retracters were an option but like I said not sure. Thats all I can tell you as I have a 73 and they have a one year only type belt system in the front and my 72 didn't have any belts when I bought it and I will probably use an aftermarket set up in it.

late 72 cars had the 73 front combo set up, two males, one female

My 72 is an October build. It has the double belts. Two lap belts in the back, lap belts and shoulder belts in the front. Eash belt has a male and female end and there are no retractors anywhere.

On my 70 the lower outers have retractors in sleeves, short belts there, no buckles. Inner belts have the buckles, both are about 26 inches long. Rear have two sets only, buckle on inner side belt, is also about 26 inches long, maybe the same as the fronts.

Here are pics of the belts in have, think they are the 72/73 model, shoulder strap is dated 72, rear seat belts are from a later GM full size vehicle, they should be smaller with a blue GM button same as front, shoulder strap holder is from maybe 73???

thanks for the close up pics.
those belts look way different than the couple i have. the buckles on mine look larger and have a blue GM button. and the male part is shaped different and isn't retractable.
i'll probably have to buy a complete set or at least get a few more to match the belts i already have to make a set.

Ok this sounds crazy but the EXACT same thing happened to me with mt 73' and the ONLY thing i was lelt with was the upper shoulder belts...OK late 70's through mid 80's suburbans buckles will work, i can get pics with needed, and i robbed a set of 1973 Caddy chrome latches that will work with that buckle after 1973 i think GM went to the automatic shoulder rollers so get the latches off something pre 1973 its in the photo to accept 2 male ends, i also have a 1 gen camaro and the latches WILL work too with this buckle. I found out that the buckles are easy to find. The hard part was getting the lap rollers you rob those off of 2 gens up to the big bumpers. I am unsure about the urth cars. You can get the latches sone on at any upholstery shop. But if there isnt a junk yard around you NPD and Ecklers Camaro sell a full 3 point seat belt harness for 300.00 and its a full bolt in.
